William McClure

Grandfather of Colin Manson (ahnentafel #6, MF)

โ—‹ No source citation
โ„น Added from a recordHis death entry (Glasgow, 1968) confirms the date on the headstone: 20 June 1968 at the Victoria Infirmary, aged 43, a steel dresser living at 4 Ballantay Road. The cause was cerebral embolism with mitral stenosis. The entry writes his date of birth as 1/5/1925, so his birth is now shown as 1 May 1925. The GEDCOM had 25 May 1925; the entry was given by his widow and the age of 43 fits either date, so his birth certificate would settle it.
Born

โ„น His death was not in the treeThe GEDCOM had no death date for William. The headstone already gave 20 June 1968, aged 43, and this register entry confirms it and adds that he died in the Victoria Infirmary. His wife Agnes registered the death the same day.
โ„น Parents confirmedJoseph McClure and Mary Ann Ward are the parents already in the tree (Joseph McClure and Mary Ann Ward, married 1924).
โš  Birth date correctedThe register gives his date of birth as 1/5/1925, which reads as 1 May 1925. The GEDCOM had 25 May 1925. The tree now shows 1 May 1925, as written here, but his widow gave this date, so his birth certificate would settle it. An age of 43 fits either.

Statutory Marriages 644/2 271 · Bridgeton district, Burgh of Glasgow, 1948, page 136, entry 271

William McClure, 23, seaman in the Royal Navy, bachelor, 226 Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow
Groom's parents
Joseph McClure, tube factory worker; Mary Ann McClure, maiden surname Ward

โ„น Her registered nameThe bride is Agnes Wood Gavigan, not Agnes Nancy. Nancy is not on this record or on her husband's death record. It is on the headstone ("Nancy Gavigan"), so it was the name she was known by. Her aunt, born in 1920, was registered with the same name.
โ„น Her sister as a witnessHelen McK Gavigan of 19 Orr Street is almost certainly the bride's sister Helen McKechnie Gavigan (born 1927), who is already in the tree. The middle name matches their grandmother, Helen D McKechnie.
โ„น Exact dateThe GEDCOM had only "1948, Bridgeton" for this marriage. The date is now shown as 6 August 1948.
โ„น Both parents confirmedThe record names both sets of parents as already shown in the tree: Joseph McClure and Mary Ann Ward, and Hugh Joseph Gavigan and Margaret Sarah Finlayson. A second marriage on the page (entry 272, Henry Joseph Hughes and Sarah Dunbar) is unrelated.

SADLY MISSED

William McClure
Died 20 June 1968, aged 43. This fills in a death date the GEDCOM did not have. His 1968 death entry gives the same date and writes his birth as 1 May 1925, which is now the date shown (the GEDCOM had 25 May 1925); the age fits either.
Died 16 October 1989, as "Agnes W.G. McClure". The GEDCOM only has 1989. The stone also calls her "Nancy Gavigan", the name she was known by.
โ„น Where is the grave? The file name says Linn Cemetery, which is a Glasgow cemetery, but nothing on the stone itself shows the location, so no burial place has been added to the people.
โ„น Reading the stoneThe age is clearest as 43. The day of death looks like the 20th.
